Children of Asazi Speak....

Finally the “lost generation” gets to voice out their issues in a hip and urban style of poetry. Power poets will take on the stage and tackle issues that have been sidelined; black men and their relationship with their fathers.

‘Children of Asazi” which means, “children who don’t know”, comes from a play written by the late writer Matsemela Manaka. Manaka wrote the play in his youth, and he was dealing with the issues of the then youth.

It’s been a long time since Jozi had such a line up of gifted wordsmiths:

Lebo Mashile, Mak Manaka, Ntsiki Mazwai, Prophet JD, Napo Masheane, Flo, and Common Man.

DJ BlaqT will spin the decks.

….just a week after Evo LokxionSundaze gig!

As if coming from a heavy and busy weekend is not enough, all I needed was to be easy with things and get myself to relax and reflect back a bit. But that could not happen… Just days later it’s the B-Side edition featuring Manello aka FunkiKora and the now world famous Blk Jks at NsakO… Everything worked out well with preparations and I must say Thanks to Kwanele and Neo, who made sure that i get to the venue on time after doing all the rounds and picking up Si Puleng and Manello in Rosebank off to the venue (The House of NsakO) where guys(Blk Jks)busy with their last touches. And it was a happy reunion for Manello & Blk JKs, as we all last saw each other at the Pass Festival (Cap Town).
Manello opened up with dope tunes getting everybody closer to the dance floor… and the Blk Jks came in with a nice set accompanied by some dodgy sound engineering from the guy. But the guys came up top over that and the highlight came when Michel all the way from New York City took the stage,to collabo with the Blk Jks adding the some Dancehall flavor. It was a nice experience after… and when you thought that was enough Blk Jks summed up the night with Zabalaza… having the whole house on its feet and the General Sbu was on stage for the better part of that song leading the chant “ Gurilla Gijima… Nyamazana “… Followed was myself with myself cooking up a storm with Manello joining for back to back set (“such a wack media term” –Rozzano would say! lol) that went on till close… fun it was!

The next was the B-side Hangover at the two Cat Food Festival held on Henley On Klip site… due to rain the we postponed the stage for the next day and the next day still it was pouring so the hang over party was not to be… but I must give props to the paper plastic guys for such a production.. Even thou they never got to realize the full potential of the festival but you must keep on and thanks to Tshepo who made sure I get there raining or not… thanks bra 1! And Thanks a lot My Brother Manello(it’s all material…we have a life.) and to my home boys for making sure we have a dope a dope regardless the sound problems and bul*** that followed!...nuff said!

Evo lokxion as always…

On the 2 November, it was our 17th edition of the East Rand based movement(EvO LokxiOn) with Mawe-2 set to perform live. The day began on a very slow and shaky mood from my side as I thought it could rain at any time… yet it was windy in which eventually subsided later on…but as always the atmosphere for evo experience was set…Before we could even set up the sound some had already taken their spots… Rose, Nkosana & crew came out early...!!
Our Backyard Selecta kick started the session with some of old school classics building up to that disco vibes. To follow was dR mtunga mero, making his return after long absence at the evo sessions with some of thatdope music as always. By then the massive had gathered in numbers… considering this was our first edition back to Vosloorus after our last session in SowetO... I must say it was nice to see the regulars and new faces can't mention names (and I’m upset with you Talitha! mmmh) but none the less it was a good feeling to be up and running again, Blunted Stuntman made his presence felt playing a wicked set that got peeps dancing like mad (Kwanele, would know! …lol) the only disappointment was the non arrival of Kid FonQue, who had to attend his girlfriend’s birthday thing and Mawe-2 could not play due to some reason I still couldn’t not figure…even thou he was present. So that meant anytime soon after Blunted Stuntman killer set i have to jump in… and by the time I got in, already the yard was packed with peeps chanting, screaming… with my set the less said the better…. All in all it was a dope day @ evo… and a job well done to current organizing team and mostly definitely we want more, But you guys must know Mawe-2 Owes us one!

Vosloo making moves...

Props to my home boys Veedot who just released debut his project “Vagina Monologue – the singles” and I must say I like the packaging... Ooh and track two – Understand… that joint is dope! The same goes with Substance aka the ill Subt, I think it’s been a good been a year with some dope moves and hopefully next year it’s on some power moves… shout out to the Pull Ova crew, especially Brian aka “B- Money” (the only Vosloorus executive without a suit and pushing that swagger)… Reason`s album is on the shelves from the 21st November 08…. Zoono is about done with his Drum n Base project! Big ups Nuff Said……
