the djing course at Fuse Academy for Girls. Under the leadership of
Dj Clone, Dj Zandee (Club 808 vj) and Dj Zinhle (Feminine Touch)
she found her voice in music.
She Combines Hip-hop, Soul, abstract beats and Jazz infused sounds Dj Pilzy Lee entices a
specific crowd fitted with a specific ear. With her individual playing style she manages
to manoeuvre in and out of genres with ease exhibiting the history of other

Nicky is a painter, writer, teacher, compiler, producer and highly respected DJ where she has been performing for over 18 years. She currently produces The World Show on Kaya FM 95.9. People both locally and internationally tune in to enjoy her mix of urban, archival, deeply rooted, contemporary and cutting edge sounds. Her knowledge of African and Latin music is particularly extensive.
As a pioneer of the “Public Art Movement” she began painting murals in 1990, and produced and facilitated over 70 public art works in South Africa and abroad. As an educator she has facilitated courses on African Music and African Radio and is involved in developing curriculum on African and World Music. She has been a judge for the Kora All African Music Awards and the South African Music Awards and is often invited as a panelist speaker for seminars.
As a writer she is a regular contributor for notable publications, both locally, internationally and throughout the continent. She also researches and writes musician’s biographies, profiles and relevant information for CD sleeves and has done music research and selection for film and television. She has produced, remixed and compiled a variety of CD releases. She has always been involved and committed to the development of Arts and Culture as a whole in South Africa; and this has extended to include the African continent.

*Korianda - Freestyles, Unreleased and Rare treats
The timing of this release of Korianda freestyles, unreleased goodies and other rare treats (compiled by his number one fan DJ BlaQ T) makes little sense on a number of fronts.
Firstly, as the clutch of joints uploaded on his MySpace page suggest, Korianda Izajah has moved on to considerably harsher dancehall terrain; a zone more commonplace with the extended Chronic Clan’s repertoire than with Fifth Floor’s 2005 album Attention to Detail. Secondly, BlaQt has been sitting on this material since 2006, flashing it like a hobo rocking a trench coat on his blog and elsewhere in cyberspace.
But having said all that, this release, “mastered” in T’s Vosloorus bedroom, is important in its capturing the raw essence and versatility of this Gugulethu street poet, in a many-moods-of-Moses sort of way.
The collection launches with a static-filled radio dial up intro, which shifts into a wobbly freestyle before segueing into a fierce but somber poetry piece about the true lie that is Azania’s freedom. The unaccompanied piece was performed at Zula Bar in Cape Town’s Long Street.
From then on, the momentum picks up with the dark Kreation, a track whose mood and beat is reminiscent of Jeru’s Come Clean, except that Korianda’s careening multilingual flow is a has a rougher edge to it. The browbeating continues when T. H. Citizen, probably the most abstract weed anthem you will ever encounter, is scratched in immediately afterwards. This joint is a perfect example of Korianda’s connect-the-dots lyrical sensibility. But soon enough, the needle is pulled and lands on the b-boy-meets-Rasta tag team of Korianda and Sammy Sparks, in the form of Can’t Cool, as heard on Attention to Detail. Korianda kills the hook as if a chalwa flame resides in his throat, and drops a verse that burns those who eat “sperm and swine first thing in the morning”. Ouch! Street Poet, featuring Vuvu on the hook, is a personal favorite, with Kori running through a checklist of tools and motifs that typify the Cape Town hip-hop scene, weaving his vision in between a big booty bass line and a floating flute.
From here on, an uneven freestyle is framed by two flavor BlaQt joints, before a skit leads to the driving Sound Bwoy, featuring punching drums and the distinct vocals of Crosby on the hook. My verdict: a dope, fast-paced showcase for a 25 minute joint, but it leaves me wondering what new herbs Korianda is experimenting with...writes Kwanele Sosibo

DJ BlaQt went on digging on one of Mzantsi’s (SA) finest emcee/poet Korianda to bring out the Street Flava Mix-tape, the Gugulethu born and brewed verbalist who`s prolific styles of rhyming makes hard not to notices his artistry on the tape, a member of the crew 5th Floor is brought to your ears and attention like never before on this one.
On the tape BlaQt brings out some unreleased material, tracks like T.H Citizen, keep Looking and Street Poet (written about the cape town’s hip-hop scene and soon to be released with his forthcoming E.p).Freestyles live at mutha fm. Plus Kreation (which also appears on Yfm`s Harambe dope Session Compilation) and the reggae influenced Can’t Cool featuring his crew member Sammy Sparks from the album attention to detail by 5th floor.....Review by Y Magazine(issue#70)

As I'm jotting this down, I'm bouncing around like a kid on candy. Listening to Jamiroquai - Blow my mind track… on repeat ekse! *signing along moments* Anyway we well close to the next edition of Soul Fanatics and so you know, we having another edition its all because of you guys, the great response on the last edition, the emails and them FB threads kept me going. Dreaming if we could at have another one… Well dreams do come alive innit? and the guys at Kitchener's where most happy to give us a go ahead for the 2nd edition….. AMEN to that!!!
The other reason am ecstatic, is having DJ Bubbles as the guest of honor. A Pretoria based deck wrecker and a Soul Fanatic crate digger of note… his eclectic sets have seen him rock parties in and around Pretoria to Johannesburg. Only for the Mozambique born warrior to come save us… the premier eclectic rock reggae, multi talented songwriter who musical journey has seen him collaborate, feature and perform alongside an array of artists of with some degree his live performances have lead to many to take note.
Fresh from the success of his work with the White Wedding movie soundtracks with four of his songs and also contributed to the docu-movie, Hidden Heart – Story of Chris Barnard and Hamilton Naki which has been screened at cinema noveau theatres country-wide and in Switzerland, coupled with the video of the track “My favorite song” is enjoying heavy rotation on Channel O… and you probably asking yourself what next? Yep His is currently working on his new album where he is doing collaborations with Mxo, Laurie Lavigne and members of Kwani Experience and co-producing with Omen and Mphoza. Interestingly the forth coming album is titled, Steadyrock as Agent Provacateur in Musiocracy..
To share the stage will one of the hottest crews in scene outer Vosloorus, Kick Start …ladies and gentlemen led by Smash Mellow of the band Impande Core they all set to kick start groove up in this….

Hey guys, its been a minute since I've droped a word on matters...
So much has gone down don’t even know where to start… but the trip to Free State is the memorable one… The 2nd Annual Jammin'n'ting Festival was a blast from just leaving jozi it was crazy til up the boondooz with some cops trippin on us as usual.. but that’s what you get riding with @True Jones….:) but Thanks to all who came down for it… I must say it was nice to see Hannah (Miss H) after like 3 to 4yrs I think? …@Breeze Yoko , @Mzwandile Buthelezi , @Nkululeko Butho Majozi , @Backyard Crew, @Lwazi Prolific ya'll made it dope and the girls off course. will be posting more pictures plus some videos(check on www.facebook.com/djblaqt) especially the vid of me and DJ Okapi on a funk soul one on one set that was kief for sure… and @Za hope lil' Flaco is coming alright.
